BCC 2-8 Pilot Program and Extra Curricular Activities
Click here for a description of this scheduling pilot at Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School

Draft 3/20/02

Students who want to participate in the 2-8 Pilot need to determine whether or not there will be a schedule conflict with sports or other extracurricular activities they may want to be involved with.
Most club activities will be accessible to 2-8 participants because they meet during lunch.  However, there are a few that meet after school.  Music classes meet during the regular school day, so they are open to 2-8 participants.  Rehearsals for specific performances may take place after school, but normally not during 8th period.  Participation arrangements for after school rehearsals will need to be coordinated and approved by Mr. White.  Rehearsals for drama productions generally take place after school.  However, depending on the specific requirements of an individual's role, it may be possible to come to rehearsal after the end of 8th period.  Such arrangements need to be coordinated and approved by Mr. Boswell or Ms Hoover.

Most other team-oriented sports (baseball, soccer, field hockey, etc.) will not be compatible with the 2-8 schedule because they require the entire team to come to practice together right after 7th period.  However, there should not be a conflict for football players, because football practice traditionally takes place after an 8th period study hall.  Some sports that are more individual-oriented like tennis and swimming may also be able to be more flexible on practice attendance times, but the final decision on flexibility is up to the discretion of the individual coach (see list below).   2-8 participants also need to be aware that transportation requirements for away games will likely mean missing 8th period class on game days.
